Partner Spotlight: Mandalay Bay Resort

Already one of the largest resorts in the world, the iconic Las Vegas property is reinventing itself as one of the forerunners in the meetings and events space with a $70 million expansion, all under MGM Resorts International's commitment to a minimum of LEED Gold standards for new builds.

Located at 3950 South Las Vegas Boulevard amidst lush tropical landscaping, you'll find over 3,200 rooms (including 436 suites) and one of the largest Convention Centers in the United States.  If you count the Delano Las Vegas and Four Seasons, both hosted on the property, you're at a grand total of 4,752 rooms.

The Mandalay Bay Resort has been a mainstay in Las Vegas since it opened its doors in 1999, and a AAA Four Diamond Award winner 15 years running (2000 – 2015). As corporate event planners, here's a few of our favorite details:

Recreation & Relaxation: Feeling adventurous during your off time? Take your pick from the resort's wave pool, lazy river, or real sand beach. Book an appointment in one of the three onsite spas including Spa Mandalay, BATHHOUSE Spa and The Spa at Four Seasons, all featuring a wide array of culturally inspired world treatments and services.

Cuisine: Twenty-five lounges and restaurants include gastronomic meccas led by celebrity chefs, such as Rick Moonen’s Rx Boiler Room and Kumi Japanese Restaurant & Bar by Akira Back.  (The neighboring Shoppes at Mandalay Place adds an additional 40 shops and restaurants).

Entertainment: Two stellar amenities bring productive days to a perfect close: Michael Jackson One by Cirque du Soleil, for an immersive musical experience, and Light, the world’s first nightclub from Cirque du Soleil.

The Latest: Things are changing on the South end of “The Strip.” Already the seventh largest Convention Center in the country with 1.7 million square feet of existing meeting and exhibit space,  Mandalay Bay will add an additional 350,000 square feet of exhibit space with completion expected by January 2016.

Exhibit Space: Based on customer demand, the resort built new exhibit space, a 20,000-square-foot foyer and underground parking in this first phase, strengthening its position as a leader in the meetings and trade show industry.  The second and final phase of the expansion will transition existing space into a 70,000-square-foot carpeted ballroom.  Construction began in October 2014 and upon completion of this project in January 2016, the Mandalay Bay Convention Center will boast more than 2 million total square feet and over 900,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space. This new space elevates its ranking in North America to No. 5 in both total square feet and exhibit space.

Carbon Footprint: MGM Resorts International has made a commitment to build all new facilities to LEED Gold standards or better, and the Convention Center expansion will meet those standards.  In addition to its numerous awards Mandalay Bay was awarded 5 Keys in the Green Key Eco-Rating Program – the foremost “green” ranking, certification and audit program in North America evaluating sustainable hotel operations (scale of 1 to 5 Keys, 5 Keys is highest designation). That commitment to sustainability continues with this new expansion.   Set to go on line in late November, resort is adding an 8-acre rooftop solar photovoltaic array that will join an existing 20 acre array already in place to generate 3.4 million kilowatt hours a year of usable power.
