Get current wait times at every terminal at every U.S. airport
Have you heard of Waze, the navigation app run by other drivers to make the world a happier place? This feature on TSA.com is sort of like that, but for airport security lines.
The website allows you to post the wait times you're observing while in line (I mean, what else are you going to do?), right down to the exact terminal. If you believe in karma, save this in your bookmarks tab on your phone and use it frequently to give fellow savvy travelers a dose of helpful info.
If you're worried about wait times affecting your itinerary, simply input your city or airport code and browse the main checkpoint or specific terminal queues. It even notifies you which airports offer TSA Pre✓® benefits!
You can also educate yourself on patterns at unfamiliar airports a few days before your trip if that's the sort of thing you're into. For example, at the time of this article, Terminal 5 at JFK was consistently between 60-90 minutes wait around 5pm yet reportedly had no wait times later in the evening.
As a heads up- because this information is provided by other travelers, you'll find that busier airports will have more frequently updated information (which actually works out perfectly) while less frequented areas typically have an update every 24 hours.
